Confluence Modulo Equivalence in Constraint Handling Rules

چکیده

Previous results on confluence for Constraint Handling Rules, CHR, are generalized to take into account user-defined state equivalence relations. This allows a much larger class of programs to enjoy the advantages of confluence, which include various optimization techniques and simplified correctness proofs. A new operational semantics for CHR is introduced that reduces notational overhead significantly and allows to consider confluence for programs with extra-logical and incomplete built-in predicates. Proofs of confluence are demonstrated for programs with redundant data representation, e.g., sets-as-lists, for dynamic programming algorithms with pruning as well as a Union-Find program, which are not covered by previous confluence notions for CHR.

Confluence Modulo Equivalence with Invariants in Constraint Handling Rules

Confluence denotes the property of a state transition system that states can be rewritten in more than one way yielding the same result. Although it is a desirable property, confluence is often too strict in practical applications because it also considers states that can never be reached in practice. Additionally, sometimes states that have the same semantics in the practical context are consi...

Analyzing Graph Transformation Systems through Constraint Handling Rules

Graph transformation systems (GTS) and constraint handling rules (CHR) are nondeterministic rule-based state transition systems. CHR is well-known for its powerful confluence and program equivalence analyses, for which we provide the basis in this work to apply them to GTS. We give a sound and complete embedding of GTS in CHR, investigate confluence of an embedded GTS, and provide a program equ...

Graph Transformation Systems in CHR

In this paper we show it is possible to embed graph transformation systems (GTS) soundly and completely in constraint handling rules (CHR). We suggest an encoding for the graph production rules and we investigate its soundness and completeness by ensuring equivalence of rule applicability and results. We furthermore compare the notion of confluence in both systems and show how to adjust a stand...

Satisfiability Modulo Constraint Handling Rules (Extended Abstract)

Satisfiability Modulo Constraint Handling Rules (SMCHR) is the integration of the Constraint Handling Rules (CHRs) solver programming language into a Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) solver framework. Constraint solvers are implemented in CHR as a set of high-level rules that specify the simplification (rewriting) and constraint propagation behavior. The traditional CHR execution algorithm ...
